hi everyone, we had another good turnout this
past wednesday with 20 participants. monday evening we had 9 participants. we
wish to welcome new players larry thomas (monday) and norm and jack turner
(wednesday). don straits, our membership
chairman, has developed a great logo for the club and is testing the waters to
see if the membership wishes to have club shirts. please see don if your
interested, as we will only go forward if demand is sufficient to cover costs.
we are still considering an
area-wide tournament for later this year. in the next few weeks we will check
with everyone as to his or her interests in both playing and helping. this would
be a combined effort with ard, our club and the sierra
club. congratulations to phil joffe, rick
close, gerry mifsud and don moran for winning their respective
groups. results from the round robin are: 1-25-2006

hi
everyone, we had a good turnout this
past wednesday with 19 participants. two took advantage of the lessons
provided by greg winford and 16 participated in the round robin.
many of you have asked about
our club ratings and the positioning of players on the round robin
tables. the ratings were
initially set somewhat arbitrarily, although the top ten, or so, are probably
pretty accurate due to several of these players having usatt ratings and they
compare favorably with their club ratings. theoretically, each time a
match is concluded the participants ratings change depending on the
outcome of the match and the ratings of the two
participants. commands and functions
contained in macros in an excel program using the same methodology as the usatt
achieves this result. as for placements on the
round robin tables: they are populated top to bottom from the ratings with the
exception that the prior week's winner of the next lower table is moved up
regardless of rating. as for how participants end up finishing on their
perspective tables: positioning is determined 1st from matches won, if their are
ties then games won, if a tie still exists then games lost. again this is
achieved with excel. don straits, our membership
chairman, has designed a club logo and will soon be offering t-shirts for sale.
we are, also, still
considering an area-wide tournament for later this year. in the next few weeks
we will check with everyone as to their interests in both playing and
helping. results from the round robin are: 1-18-2006

as we have all
witnessed, our club is constantly attracting new guests. in order to make them
feel at home and also acquaint them with the house rules we needed someone to
fill the role of orientation. this was offered to don straits and he has
accepted with our thanks. please help the club out by letting don know if you
observe new people whom seem to be interested. we just kicked
off monday evenings, which can be useful as practice sessions, doubles or just
playing more tt. for more information contact ron @ 2ronmallory@re4u.net ard has
suggested several times that we hold a table tennis tournament for this area.
tim aquino along with larry scott of the sierra club is meeting with ard this
friday to explore the feasibility of doing this. this would be held in a gym,
have trophies for prizes and be open to all in the area. if anyone would like to
be a part of running such an event please advise. results from the round robin are: 1/11/2006

a special
welcome back to eric andrus. eric is one of our legacy members who helped so
much when the club was just getting off the ground. welcome also to new player,
koji kita. please remember
to record your scores after each match. again, two matches went un-recorded in
group a and both were entered as 0-0. some of us had
an interesting experience new years eve sandbagging a stream that was
threatening paulas home. it must have worked as she showed up wednesday with
deviled eggs and an assortment of munchies. remember that ron mallory and phil
joffe are beginning monday evening open play effective monday 1/9/06. there will
be a sign-up sheet with playing fees of $3. for more
