hi all, well the first 7 days of the new administration have passed and it is time to implement our first stimulus plan. less than $800 billion, we promise. an item discussed at the recent annual meeting was to encourage and find ways to encourage more players to expand their horizons of table tennis play. to that end, effective march 2nd, 2009 in an effort to give an incentive to some monday folks to try out a wednesday round robin (and to bring in some wednesday round robin-ers to monday play), we will implement a new (!) playing fee policy. very simple: if you are playing monday and know you will be playing on the immediately following wednesday, pay for both monday and wednesday for the flat fee of $5 (otherwise, monday remains $3, and wednesday remains $4). make a note on the monday sign in sheet please! that $2 savings can be used in your own personal troubled asset recovery plan, or half a latte at starbucks. in addition, starting in march we are corralling larry scott (a certified usatt coach and awfully decent fellow) for some clinic work for wednesdays, which we will conduct at 6:15 p.m. (about 35 minutes or so, prior to the round robin). assistance in these clinics will be provided by tom spesick, tim aquino and bill kochenderfer, as needed. no charge for these clinics and i can assure you from experience as well as observing several players who have taken formal lessons from larry scott, these will be well worth their while. thank you larry! we will confirm with larry scott when in march this will begin. in the meantime, if you are interested, feel free to shoot him an email directly at lgscott@hughes.net. reminder on monday play: continued good turnout! if tables are all busy and we have players waiting - play singles matches of 2 of 3 games (or play an equivalent time of practice). the winner of the match will remain on the table for one more match and then move off the table. if no one is waiting you may extend by 1 game at a time. all doubles matches remain 3 of 5 games. if a player wishes to challenge a table, place your bat (racket) under the table. remember: if on a wednesday evening, you think you will be late for the round robin, please call bill (916) 275-0899, or tom spesick (530) 613-0101. if you reach us, we will put you on a table. congratulations to 2/25 round robin group winners: lu li, grant connell, micah chavez and doug vaughn. bill kochenderfer results for 02/25/2009: |
hi all, we have been seeing some good turnout for monday open play. in the interest of keeping things moving along, when tables are all busy and we have players waiting, lets try this process: play singles matches of 2 of 3 games (or play an equivalent time of practice). the winner of the match will remain on the table for one more match and then move off the table. if no one is waiting you may extend by 1 game at a time. all doubles matches remain 3 of 5 games. if a player wishes to challenge a table, place your bat (racket) under the table. our semi-annual club meeting was held saturday feb. 21. we discussed a number of topics and took stock of the state of our club and its affairs. we have added a new position (separate from president), of treasurer, and our newly elected slate of officers are the following:
president - bill kochenderfer special note to the club from tim aquino: its been a pleasure serving as the clubs president. the beginning years were a challenge for all of us. it was gratifying to see the early members pull together and front the club several thousand dollars for the purchase of tables. it would have all ended there if not for their generosity and foresight. we have all accomplished a lot over the last few years. we are all grateful to tim, as well as the club co-founder greg cehan, and the core group of a dozen or so players that put the foundation on the ground. among the many contributions tim has made is building some wonderful software to track round robin results, and we are delighted to lighten tims responsibilities on the club management side there will be an update and more information to everyone in the next week or so on the specifics of the club meeting and some of things we are kicking around to continue building enthusiasm and encouraging play at all levels. remember: if on a wednesday evening, you think you will be late for the round robin, please call bill (916) 275-0899, or tom spesick (530) 613-0101. if you reach us, we will put you on a table. congratulations to 2/18 round robin group winners: bill kochenderfer, lu li, glenn johnson and kumar jayaraman. bill kochenderfer results for 02/18/2009: |
