Greetings Table Tennis Lovers -

Welcome this past week (or so …) new players to the club – Casey McCarthy and Tim Auen.  Always nice to keep seeing new faces testing out our brand of fanaticism.

Our Annual Meeting is this coming Saturday March 6 – Please RSVP to Bill at wkochenderfer@cs.com (thank you).  We definitely need and want your input.  Suggestions for special events?  Ideas for improving play?  Specific players you wish to ban from the club, because of excessive nets and edges during play?  All fair game.  Meeting will be held at 10:00 a.m., at Bill K.’s house (about 1 minute from the Foresthill Exit on 80, so not too far away …).   Snacks and drinks for all (but you better let us know you are coming).  Never been to such a meeting before?  They are entertaining, humorous, casual, sometimes heated on a few issues, always memorable, and don’t cost a thing.

In all seriousness, please do consider attending, and if you cannot make it, send along any thoughts or agenda items you feel would be worth raising (confidential is OK, if you request it).  We will also elect officers.  Nominations?  Yes, please.  Check out the web site for the slate: President,  Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, plus we have Directors for “Open Play,” “Web,” “Orientation,” “Purchasing,” “Venue Set-up,” “Program Support,” and a “Youth Director.”  If you or someone you know should be nominated for a role in the Club, let us know.  Email their /your name.

Among the items to be discussed (and thank you to those who have emailed some topics), will be engaging a couple volunteers to trade off for Monday Open Play club opening/money intake.  If you would be willing to assist in this, let us know.

Some of the other discussion items:  Instituting a “swap” or for-sale board on the web site; finding ways to encourage new players; retaining and increasing our band of brothers from Placer HS; site evaluation; and fostering more integration of play between higher and lower skill level players.

Wednesday Round Robin -  Group 4 – Kevin Quinn (notwithstanding the loss to brother Keith), takes the table with 3-0 victories in all other matches.   Group 3 – Doug Vaughan, staying on that table 2/table 3 teeter totter, will visit Table 2 next week with his 4 and 0 outing.  Group 2 – Three players go 2 and 1, so no clear winner this week.  Group 1 – Tough to call anything an upset with 5 of the 6 players within 40 rating points of each other.  Anson Kwong prevails, now just 2 rating points behind Grant C., and 20 points ahead of Tom and Bill.  The blood bath continues next Wednesday.

Maintenance note: This week:  Wipe those tables down!  Yellow table rags are in the boxes, and we need to get a layer of dust or dirt off a few tables.  Thank you for grabbing a rag if you are first on a table.  Also, watch those wheels – we are due for an annual “table maintenance” inspection (April) and can see some of those wheel assemblies looking loose.  They are easy enough to tighten up if you see this happening.

For Wed. night, - if you will be late (after 6:45 pm), be sure to call  Bill at 916-275-0899 or Tom at 530-613-0101 and let us know.  If you reach us, we will get you on a table.

Greetings everyone -

The Auburn Table Tennis Club is open this coming Monday, February 22 – Open Play as usual.

Our Annual Meeting is 2 weeks away – thank you for those who have sent in e-mails with some discussion topics and agenda items.    This meeting will be held Saturday, March 6, 2010, at 10:00 a.m.  Location – Bill K.’s house.  Did we mention that snacks and beverages will be available?  Tea, juice, some mildly unhealthy baked goods ….   Coffee – perish the thought; you better stop by Starbucks for that.  My last attempt at coffee-making resulted in two felony charges and an invitation from Poison Control to serve as an advisor.

So we can get a rough count, please, email please to wkochenderfer@cs.com to let us know if you plan on attending!  Your vote matters.

Some discussion items:  Instituting a “swap” or for-sale board on the web site; finding ways to encourage new players and also retaining a solid group from Placer HS (we have a lot of seniors in our “regulars”); site evaluation.  These items are in addition to the customary annual activities which include a short report on finances and election of officers.   More ideas/topics?  E-mail or talk to Tom, Bill and also Larry Scott.   Meeting ends before noon! (we’re a club that’s all about playing table tennis, not so much meetings and committees, at least, not too much).  Check out the web site for a listing of the various club positions, and consider whether you might be ready, willing and able to give some time and energy to the ATTC.

Wednesday Round Robin -  A tune up to this past weekends’ Berkeley tournament, apparently.   Anson Kwong – An undefeated Wed. night in Group 1.  We look forward to hearing how this contributed, Anson, to success in the tournament.  Group 2Kirk Gipson captures the group, although it must have  been quite some match to see the 3-2 battle he had with Fred Myers.  Fred, nicely done and we welcome a detailed play-by-play to recite in this “News.”  Kirk, we’ll take your side of the story too.   Group 3 – Back on track – Stephan Wolf sweeps through.  We anticipate more of the same.

For Wed. night, - if you will be late (after 6:45 pm), be sure to call  Bill at 916-275-0899 or Tom at 530-613-0101 and let us know.  If you reach us, we will get you on a table.

Hello to all at the Auburn Table Tennis Club, thinking that spring could be around the corner -

We are open this coming Monday, February 15 (and next Monday the 22nd, too) – Open Play as usual.

Welcome George, Nathan and Matthew Seicean this past Monday!  Visitors from Sacramento, great to see you all.

Wednesday Round Robin -  Congratulations to the winners:  Group 4 – Max Fagan; Group 3 – Doug Vaughan; Group 2 – Larry Scott; Group 1 – Grant Connell.

For next Wed. night, Bill K. will be away – if you will be late (after 6:45 pm), be sure to call Tom at 530-613-0101 and let him know.  If you reach him, he will get you on a table.

Tournament Report:  Missed a quick note or two from the Sacramento Tournament of January 30th.   Bling was captured by Tom Spesick and by John Hanna, runners up in a couple groups.  Nicely done.

Annual Auburn Table Tennis Club Meeting – will be held Saturday, March 6, 2010, at 10:00 a.m.  Location – Bill K.’s house.  This is an opportunity for open discussion on most any topic of interest to club members, and to elect officers and select directors.  Also we’ll take stock of how things have been going.  We will have a report on our finances.  If you can attend and participate, please do so.  If you have a discussion topic to suggest for the agenda, let Bill K. or Tom S. or Larry Scott know.  Check out the web site (Club Admin) – all positions are “open” and it is important to the Club’s continued success that you consider stepping up and filling a role.  Nominations are welcome.  Meeting ends at or before noon!

Hello to all at the Auburn Table Tennis Club -

Doubles Night complete with brownies, annoying nets and edges, posturing, teasing and at least one old fashioned instance of cheating – was played this past Wednesday night.  Nine teams competed, and we also welcome a first time visitor to our club – Marc Lehrer, who picked up the pieces on some open play.   Marc, make us a regular stop, please.

Larry Scott and Max Fagan ran through their group, and went to a finals match with Matthew Blom and Jon Saunders, who similarly administered some traditional whippings in their own group.

Bragging rights – this go around – belong to Matthew and Jon.  Congratulations.  Your trophies (solid gold) and gift cards ($500 each) are in the mail.  Per prior custom and practice, all doubles contestants must now address these team members, for the next 10 days, with the acknowledgement: “Greetings Supreme Doubles Master.”

Plenty of singles (open) play, too, Wed. night, and it appears a good time was had by all.

Regular Round Robin resumes this coming Wed. night.

Annual Auburn Table Tennis Club Meeting – will be held Saturday, March 6, 2010, at 10:00 a.m.  Location – Bill K.’s house (Memorial Auditorium was booked).  The purpose of this meeting, in addition to an opportunity for open discussion on most any topic of interest to club members, is to elect officers and select directors for the coming year, and to take stock of how things have been going.  We will have a report on our finances (still no TARP money allocated to the club, we are sorry to report) as usual. Nominations are welcome; in person, by email, carrier pigeon, or in person.  Meeting ends at or before noon!

New Table is Here!  Thank you Jon Saunders (supplying transportation, including horse trailer, to move the table), assisted by Tom and Bill.  Maiden voyage for the table will be this coming Monday.  Apart from a minor navigational challenge, for which profuse apology was made (by Bill) and accepted (by Tom and Jon), the move went off without a hitch (well, except for a trailer hitch).  Special thank you as well to Chebu Herrick, who has been unable to be with us regularly for the last year, but who graciously loaned the club his table (dating back to the founding of the club).  Chebu, your table is returned with our gratitude and we suspect no less than 1,000 matches having been played on it.  There MAY have been a cross word or two shouted out over the table, but Ricky can probably put some spell on it to cleanse any long term bad karma.  JZ – also, many thanks for arranging for the new table; you are a great support to our club.  We wish you a speedy recovery to your ankle injury and pending surgery to repair that injury.

For Wednesdays -  If you think you will be late (i.e. after  6:45 p.m.), please call Bill (916) 275-0899 or Tom (530) 613-0101.   If you reach us, we will put you on a table.
