Welcome to Spring Weather Auburn Players –
Congratulations: Several ATTC members had a good showing
at the Sacramento March Open this past weekend. John Hanna came
in 2nd in the U1850, Nikolai Zavastitsa
came in 2nd in the U1550 and Tyler Spesick made it to the
semi-final in both the U1700 & U1850 events while also pulling off some
wins against much higher rated players and his USATT rating should make
a noticeable jump!
Round Robin Group Size: Thank you to all who responded to
last week’s question! In the email responses I
received, there were some that liked the groups separated by rating and some
that liked it split by even groups, with the possibility of playing against as
high rated as possible players, but pretty much everyone wanted as large of a
group as possible.
I think trying for 5-6 in
each group is good and possibly that some nights all matches will not be
played, especially by late arrivers and those matches should be played in order
as much as possible, but the matches that cannot be played will not be counted.
We want to complete each group’s matches every week if at all possible,
so please try to arrive on time. I also think giving the previous week’s
group winners the option to move up, regardless of rating differential is the
best policy. If the winner would rather stay back in a probably more
competitive group, that is fine as well.
We want to include as
many players as possible, but If a player will be late to the RR, they must
call, text or email Tom or Bill before 6:45, earlier if possible, or we won’t
be able to include them.
From time to time, we
may also change up the RR groupings and have a mini tournament style of play.
Notice will be given prior to these special occasions.
Round Robin results for 3/30/2011:
Group
1: Bill
Kochenderfer has a good night and goes 4-0. Matthew Blom
pulls off an upset in his Table 1 visit as well.
Group
2: Larry Scott goes 4-0
and can get his shot at Table 1 next week.
Group
3: A very competitive Group 3 as Mark Copeland goes 3-1
and gets the group win.
