hello rain-soaked all,

thanks to all who attended our 4th anniversary to-do last wednesday april 29. we may roll the robot out once a quarter or so; that seemed to be a hit.

back to regular schedule this week: open play monday and round robin on wednesday.

for wednesdays - if you think you will be late for the round robin (i.e. after 7 p.m.), please call bill (916) 275-0899, or tom (530) 613-0101. if you reach us, we will put you on a table.

salutations to all of the auburn table tennis club,

welcome new players the past mondays james hicks (the 20th) and peter sorensen (the 13th). special thank you to myron boice, who saw our club mentioned in the auburn journal, and contacted us. myron may wish he is 20 years younger, to get out and hit with us on a regular basis, but at 84 years and holding, at least he has the senior division wrapped up. we shall encourage him to drop in and defend his title.

this coming wednesday, april 29 we will hold our 4th anniversary special event! check out the web site for the flyer, and do pass along this information to anyone you think might have some fun with this. our focus is new players, and players new to wednesday, and we will have a robot set up, plus lessons and coaching (and pizza). the auburn journal had a photo on this event (last week) although it identified the date as the 22nd. we did had 4 or 5 people show up the 22nd (not positive if pizza was a partial motivation), who will return for the real date the 29th.

please email wkochenderfer@cs.com to rsvp for this. i expect well have a dozen or so, perhaps more, players for this. for those interested, we will allocate some tables for some doubles round robin, too.

this event is free to 1st timers, including monday players who have not yet made it to a wednesday. playing fees for members will be $2 ($1 for juniors).

we return to regular format wednesday may 6.

for wednesdays - if you think you will be late for the round robin (i.e. after 7 p.m.), please call bill (916) 275-0899, or tom (530) 613-0101. if you reach us, we will put you on a table.

congratulations to 4/22/09 round robin group winners: lu li, bob hemming and ramon nagsakay.

hello sunscreen users of the auburn table tennis club,

thank you to the early birds last wednesday who assisted on our table maintenance - clean surfaces courtesy of fred myers. we fixed a number of wheels in addition to some other items; all seems to be well.

you have received (hopefully) a special e-mail within the last few days about our 4th anniversary special event april 29 (wednesday). if you do not have a flyer in hand and a person or business in mind, let us know.

we will have a robot set up, plus lessons and coaching. we have put the word out to the high schools that were involved in the october tournament, and i was pleased to see a flyer in the window at big 5 on hwy 49 at bell road sunday! great work.

this is event is free to 1st timers, including monday players who have not yet made it to a wednesday. playing fees for members will be $2 ($1 for juniors). the format will be focused on open play and hitting with new players, of course with an emphasis on some basic skills. tables permitting, we will put a doubles round robin together.

it would be helpful to know how many players will be coming, so please let us know by email to wkochenderfer@cs.com if you will be with us april 29th.

for wednesdays - if you think you will be late for the round robin (i.e. after 7 p.m.), please call bill (916) 275-0899, or tom (530) 613-0101. if you reach us, we will put you on a table.

congratulations to 4/15/09 round robin group winners: bill k., grant connell, eric stefanic and ramon nagsakay.

happy return to winter weather at the auburn table tennis club,

25 players for last wednesday round robin glad to see matthew blom from grass valley, and billy murphy new player as of 4/6/09 and plenty more hitting to come. welcome as well to kjell schrevogel, accompanied by danielle stocker making her 2nd visit to auburn club, and to mark hamilton, who frequents the folsom round robin and has a serious addiction to this sport. mark, as the calendar permits, please come up to see us for treatments. there is no cure, but the symptoms can be addressed.

our 4th anniversary special event april 29 (wednesday) is on and we are making preparations. web site will have a link shortly, and we will email you in pdf format a flyer for this. hoping you will be willing and able to put a few up. our master roster shows close to 250 players that have crossed the threshold into our club, and we have close to 50 regular or semi-regular players.

april 29th is directed at attracting new players and players who have never been to our club, and we will (of course) have the basic soul food on hand (pizza and soda). more important larry scott, tom spesick, and i expect 2 or 3 other members (including john hanna, who has until recently kept mum on the fact that he was a table tennis coach in the uk), will provide free lessons and coaching. if you are a dedicated monday player and want some lessons/coaching, please attend. this is free to you too, if you are a 1st time visitor on wednesday.

note: member playing fees will be reduced to $2 for adults and $1 for juniors, and 1st timers (we hope to see a number of them) will be free. members please email me at wkochenderfer@cs.com by april 27 to let me know if you will attend. depending on the turn out, we may put a doubles round robin together. format will generally be open play and hitting with new players (plus lessons and coaching). we will have a robot set up as well.

certainly most of us have had occasion to chat with folks who like to play table tennis and may even be pretty darn good, but are reluctant to come out to a club in fear of encountering superstars. this is a key part of our target market for the 29th. keep this date in mind and i will be calling on you to help get the word out. if you have suggestions on how/where we might want to get our flyers/information, please let me know.

table maintenance date: april 15. tom and i will roll the tables out shortly before 6 p.m. wednesday and we have 3 or 4 to assist. if you can make it early to help out, please do. email tom at spesick@comcast.net.

for wednesdays - if you think you will be late for the round robin (i.e. after 7 p.m.), please call bill (916) 275-0899, or tom (530) 613-0101. if you reach us, we will put you on a table.

congratulations to 4/8/09 round robin group winners: jz, anson kwong, bill k., eric stefanic and franklin zhuang.
