greetings auburn club members,

executive committee ec report were nothing if not prompt. apart from one call for law enforcement and a visit from an addiction counselor (for our table tennis addiction), the may 30th meeting went well. thanks to those in attendance, and thanks to those who could not make it but sent along items via e-mail.

here is the story we are sticking to, as to items which will have an immediate impact on play:

mondays and wednesdays - in the interest of making playing improvement (as well as our old fashioned goal of play-4-fun) available larry scott will be preparing a basic coaching plan for beginners through intermediate level, and we will (very soon) offer lessons (free of charge) on both nights. there may be no such thing as a free lunch, but by golly, there will be free lessons in auburn! there are some details to work out, but we expect to track basic lessons so a core group of coaches/teachers can carry on as a player progresses.

monday playing etiquette - summer will see ups and downs for playing numbers, if this summer is like past summers. we do want to assure players keep getting hitting opportunities with different levels and styles of play. in part this is a something to keep in mind item. even if you hit for 7 to 10 minutes with a new person, there are good things to be learned. for challenge matches, place your paddle on the floor next to the table in play, and you are next up to hit there. stay on the table for 2 matches, then be sure to let a new player on to hit. this is just a rotation mechanism there are generally still tables to use.

other ec discussion items - conducting a 2nd (annual) tournament (likely in october) remains on the table. still considering options. if you have an interest in being on a tournament committee, see or email bill. the ec also discussed a possible change to the round robin software/reporting, and spent some time brainstorming some outreach activities. more to come on these and other topics.

meanwhile may 20 and 27 round robins are posted, sorry for the delay. we had some hanging chads, an appeal to the supreme court you know the story. congratulations may 20 to ramon m. and bill k. congratulations may 27 to ricky, anson, and bill k.

for wednesdays - if you think you will be late for the round robin (i.e. after 7 p.m.), please call bill (916) 275-0899, or tom (530) 613-0101. if you reach us, we will put you on a table.

may all your nets and edges be kindly received, and if not, at least fake being sorry.

greetings auburn club members,

arco arena possible site for a premier table tennis event? we should have a report soon from attendees at a recent meeting at that site, to discuss this possibility. if it works, and audiences can be generated, it wont be long before we have to start charging spectators in auburn . normally we pay them to watch, so this would be quite a shakeup.

meeting time! attc executive committee members, and all members/players are invited and encouraged to attend. june 27 looks like the target date. rsvp to me, please (email wkochenderfer@cs.com) . well meet promptly at 9am and be done by 10:30 am. there is a table set up in my garage begging for play, so bring a paddle. agenda items: let me know what you would like to discuss or have the ec discuss!

wednesday round robin 5/13/09 some spirited play in group b, that had matches go to 3-2 60% of the time; michael carlson breaks through 1000; nice work and the victor on table b. fred myers, forcing ramon and jon to 3-2; no worries fred, they wont squeak by on good looks forever. ramon magsakay prevails in group c. in a 6-man round robin in group a (last player with a pulse is declared the winner), there were enough deuce in the 5th matches to justify some video. three players come in 4 and 1, all winning the same number of games, but with john hanna losing the fewest and capturing the crown. we will assemble the occasional round robin of 6 when tables and overall numbers permit!

for wednesdays - if you think you will be late for the round robin (i.e. after 7 p.m.), please call bill (916) 275-0899, or tom (530) 613-0101. if you reach us, we will put you on a table.

hello sun-drenched players,

table tennis tournament attracting some real dollars? apparently the folks at bud lite believe there is a market and interest, and are putting up a $100,000 purse in june in las vegas (lost wages, to some, we hear). see www.hardbatclassic.com for information on this wild event.

maybe its because the kings did not exactly fill all the seats this season, but for what its worth, the arco arena folks have solicited a meeting with local table tennis gurus to discuss hosting a major tournament. yes, we have spies everywhere, usually recognizable by the fact that they carry a table tennis paddle with them, so easy to spot.

meeting time! attc executive committee members dont try and hide, we know who you are. all members/players are invited and encouraged to attend. summer is always dicey for scheduling, but take a glance, please. saturday morning june 13 or june 27 rsvp which date is best for you (email wkochenderfer@cs.com) ; i would prefer june 13. well meet at my house, promptly 9am and be done by 10:30 am. agenda items: let me know what you would like to discuss or have the ec discuss!

wednesday round robin 5/6/08 well played jon s., kumar j., tyler s., and i managed to hold off the tide this week. special welcome to oliver magsakay, playing his first round robin 5/6/09!

for wednesdays - if you think you will be late for the round robin (i.e. after 7 p.m.), please call bill (916) 275-0899, or tom (530) 613-0101. if you reach us, we will put you on a table.
