Greeting Auburn Table Tennis Club  -

Wednesday this weekRound Robin – We will have 3 tables in the main room, 2 tables in the second room, and a single table in the Sunset Room (as needed).  Painters are painting the far wall in the main room.

WelcomeMatteo Tournier Monday Nov. 22 – visiting accompanied by his father Patrice.  First time swinging the paddle at our club.  We took the opportunity to try and work out the bad habits he must have picked up from a relative.  We like what we see.   Also, welcome Wednesday night round robin on Nov. 24thSergey Tsvor, who has visited us on the occasional Monday.  Great to have you for Round Robin.

Round Robin Play Nov. 24thGroup 1 – a gang of six, for some reason apparently intent on providing some last minute confidence to this reporter, then heading off to the Joola Team Tournament over thanksgiving weekend …. Well, thank you, I was very pleased with the results.  Bill K. in a sweep of Table 1, getting through the 1700 barrier that we are logjammed behind with our club.    This as usual means more points to lose next week … but who’s counting …     In Group 2 – another group of six players.   All matches played to seed; Grant Connell takes the table 5-0.   We have missed Tyler Spesick a few nights; hopefully this will change and the mighty smasher will mete out more pain (and we mean that literally, for anyone who has suffered being stung by a ball off his paddle).  Bring your own aloe vera.

For Wed. night, - if you will be late (after 6:45 pm), be sure to call   Tom at 530-613-0101 or Bill (916-275-0899) and let them know.  If you reach us, we will get you on a table.

Also for Wednesdays, tables permitting, if you wish to come and hit for fun (i.e. not participate in the round robin), that is fine and the Club will charge $2 per person for that.

Happy Thanksgiving Week-Eve to all of the Auburn Table Tennis Club  -

We are OPEN Monday and Wednesday this week Yes, Thanksgiving Eve is a Round Robin night.   Hope to see you in your turkey looking best.

Round Robin Play Nov. 17thGroup 1 – Nobody prevailed.  Thank you Larry for at least being different than the rest of the group.   Group 2Dave Ganguly topples the heap; we note again Tyler Spesick picked a few pockets for another 70 rating points … ouch, but well done.  Group 3:  Elan Seagraves may not have won, but he was on Tyler’s heals with 66 new rating points to show off for the kids.  Bob Hemming prevails with the only sweep of the night, in any group.     Onward and upward …

For Wed. night, - if you will be late (after 6:45 pm), be sure to call   Tom at 530-613-0101 or Bill (916-275-0899) and let them know.  If you reach us, we will get you on a table.

Greetings Auburn Table Tennis Club Members  -

Chilly nights and red hot table tennis, a perfect combination – This is the time of year, at least for some, when the outdoor sports are rested and the table tennis gear comes out for review and use.   Monday – open play; Wed. – Round Robin.  You know where to find us, six years into this club of moderately crazy (passionate to be sure) but overall pretty darn nice players, from the serious to the social.

Round Robin November 10, 2010Thank you Tom for coordinating, and Tom will also coordinate November 17.

Group 1:  JZ, nice to have you in town; I see 12 games won and one game lost (what, did you leave the room for a few minutes ..?).   JZ goes 4-0; we always appreciate a chance to see if the armor has a weakness.  None this past Wednesday.  Maybe next time.   Special mention due to Tyler Spesick, ramping up and hitting bullets (that hurt if they hit you), and liberating 47 rating points from a victory on table one.  We see you also took Dave G. to 5 games, plus took a game off Grant, not too shabby.  Be the next kid on your block to absorb a thrashing from Tyler!

Group 2 – also a group of 6 – and Larry Scott imitates JZ with only one game lost.   You copy cat, Larry.   This still earns you a trip to Table #1, so keep the confidence riding high.  Paula Cole - - patience and perseverance, we see a couple games picked up, that’s the ticket.   It’s all about the progress …     Nice to see Kirk Gipson too; an “old boy” from the early days of the club (not that he is old … he is certainly well into his 20s, that’s all we can say).

USATT Membership -  if you are joining or renewing – please do so through our Club.  Questions on how to do this?  Email Bill at wkochenderfer@cs.com.  Membership is required for participation in USATT tournaments, of course; the membership also puts you on the distribution for the USATT magazine, which always has some interesting articles and write ups on various goings-on at the national level, plus tournament reports.  Easy to do these and USATT kicks a few bucks back to the club, which does not hurt either (same price for new membership and renewal, however you do this).

For Wed. night, - if you will be late (after 6:45 pm), be sure to call   Tom at 530-613-0101 or Bill (916-275-0899) and let them know.  If you reach us, we will get you on a table.

Also for Wednesdays, tables permitting, if you wish to come and hit for fun (i.e. not participate in the round robin), that is fine and the Club will charge $2 per person for that.

Greetings Auburn Table Tennis Club and World Series Giants Fans  -

Welcome back - anticipated – This coming Monday night, club co-founder Tim Aquino will be with us after an extended trip overseas (the better part of a year).  Let’s show him a good time, let him win a few games.  Just a few.

Round Robin November 3, 2010 Group 1:  Tom Spesick, goes 4-0, looks like he has tournament form in mind, though we’re not sure what tournament he is prepping for.    Group 2: Dave Ganguly, running the table 5-0 and getting a well deserved trip to Table 1 next week.   Group 3: Mark Copeland, yes 5-0 as well, showing good form and having to get by Chuck Feyh 3-2.

Check out the “Trends” on the website (under the “Ratings” tab), and you can see who is gaining points and who is sporting the winning percentages of note.  Sam Seo leads in active players in both categories – up 142 rating points, and with an 81.6% winning record.  Players need to play in at least 15 Round Robins between July 1 and December 31, to qualify for fabulous life-changing awards presented in early January.  The top three finishers are recognized in both categories.  Following on Sam’s heels at the moment in the Most Improved (i.e. rating points increase) is Bob Hemming (120 pts.), Nikolai Zavastitisa (90 pts.), Matthew Blom (66 pts.), Jon Saunders (62 pts.) and Tom Spesick (58 pts.).

In the “Best Record” group – Tom Spesick (63.1%), Matthew Blom (61.1%), John Hanna (59.4%), Nikolai Z. (57.8%), follow Sam.
